How it works

One place for every stage of the book.

Most authors juggle a notes app, a word processor, a spreadsheet of characters and a folder of research. BIMA puts the whole life of a book in one workspace.

  1. Idea01

Catch premises, scraps of dialogue and research the moment they arrive, in an ideas vault that follows you from book to book.

  2. Plan02

Lay out beats on a board, colour them by plot thread, and build the story bible: characters, places, timeline and world notes.

  3. Draft03

Write chapter by chapter in a quiet, typographic editor with focus mode, autosave, daily goals and a streak worth protecting.

  4. Revise04

Ask for a critique, check continuity across the whole manuscript, take snapshots, and invite beta readers to comment inline.

  5. Publish05

Export one manuscript to EPUB, DOCX, print-ready PDF, standard agent submission format or Markdown, with pre-flight checks.

Features

Everything a book needs, and nothing it doesn't.

Thoughtfully built tools for planning, drafting, revising, collaborating and publishing — designed around how books actually get written.

Ideas

Ideas vault

Notes, premises, titles and what-ifs, tagged and pinned. Promote any idea into a book or a beat when it is ready.

Plan

Beat board

Drag beats between Setup, Turn and Close, park the ones you are unsure of, and link each beat to a chapter and a thread.

Plan

Story bible

Characters with goals, voice and traits; places; a dated timeline; open plot threads; world and research notes.

Write

Distraction-free editor

A manuscript page set in Source Serif, with chapters, parts, focus mode, word counts and autosave that never makes you think about it.

Assist

An assistant that has read your book

Continue, rewrite, critique, ask, brainstorm, names, blurbs and outlines — grounded in your story bible and earlier chapters.

Revise

Continuity watch

Flags timeline contradictions, changed details, repeated verbal tics and threads you planted but never paid off.

Habit

Goals, streaks & progress

Daily word goals, a fourteen-day rhythm chart, chapter status and progress toward your target length.

Revise

Version snapshots

Save a snapshot before a risky rewrite and restore any earlier version of a chapter in one click.

Research

Research library

Keep PDFs, images and references beside the manuscript, stored privately on Cloudflare R2 and shared only by signed links.

Share

Beta-reader links

Send a read-only link to readers, collect inline comments by passage, and revoke the link whenever you like.

Collaborate

Collaboration roles

Invite a co-author, an editor or a beta reader to a single book, each with exactly the access they need.

Publish

Export anywhere

EPUB 3 for retailers, DOCX for editors, print-ready PDF, standard manuscript format for agents, and clean Markdown.

Teams

Team workspace

A shared library for studios and small presses with owner, admin, editor, writer and reviewer roles, pooled credits and an audit log.

And a manuscript that is always yours to take with you.

The assistant

Your words stay yours.

The assistant is an editor at your elbow, not a ghostwriter. It works from your story bible and your earlier chapters, matches your voice, and only acts when you ask.

  • It knows your book

Characters, places, the timeline, open threads and style notes are read before it writes a word, so Ilse stays forty-one and the ferry still runs on Wednesdays.

  • You stay in control

Suggestions arrive in a side panel. Nothing enters the manuscript until you insert it, and every insertion can be undone or restored from a snapshot.

  • Private by design

Text is sent to the model only for the request you make, and is never used to train AI models.

  • Clear, predictable credits

Each plan includes monthly AI credits. A rewrite costs 1, a critique 3, a full continuity check 5 — no surprises.

Reader's note on this scene

The scene does its work but withholds too long. Ilse's accusation lands in paragraph two, then the chapter spends four paragraphs on rope and gulls. Consider cutting the knot business to a single clause — the stalling reads as the author's, not Aren's.

Who it's for

Built for people who finish books.

Novelists

Keep a sprawling cast and a 100,000-word timeline straight, and finish the draft instead of re-reading it.

Non-fiction authors

Organise research alongside chapters, track arguments as threads, and turn an outline into a proposal-ready draft.

Co-authors & editors

Work in the same manuscript with clear roles, comments tied to passages, and snapshots before every big change.

Small presses & studios

Run several books at once in a team workspace with seats, permissions, pooled AI credits and an audit trail.

Questions

Things authors ask us first.

Something else? Get in touch.

Who owns what I write in BIMA?
You do. Your manuscripts, notes and files belong to you. We store them to provide the service, we never claim rights over them, and you can export or delete everything at any time.
Is my manuscript used to train AI models?
No. The assistant only runs when you ask it to, and the text it needs is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude) solely to produce your answer. BIMA does not use your writing to train models.
Do I have to use the AI assistant?
Not at all. Every planning, writing, revision and export feature works without it. The assistant stays closed until you open it.
What file formats can I export?
Markdown and DOCX on every plan. Author Pro and Team add EPUB 3, a print-ready PDF and standard agent submission format, plus beta-reader links.
Can I work with a co-author or an editor?
Yes. On Author Pro you can invite up to three collaborators per book as co-author, editor or beta reader. Team plans remove the limit and add a shared workspace.
Where are my files stored?
Manuscript text lives in our PostgreSQL database; uploaded files such as covers, research PDFs and exports are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 bucket and delivered through short-lived signed links.
